-Digital Engagement #6-

The film I chose to watch was Disney’s “WALL-E”. At the movie’s beginning, the audience is first introduced to technology or the digital future in a setting where it has overtaken the human race; not in a way where no humans are left but robots and technology do everything for the humans. After you see the ruined earth and see that the human race now lives in space on a spaceship they live in a very futuristic and dystopian life. Throughout the movie, you see many holograms, floating carts, and floating seats. The human’s outfits can change color instantly with one click on a screen. The humans get around the spaceship in floating chairs and do not have to get up they are just transported to where they need to go. There are many changes to how they live for example, they do not have any jobs and the jobs are all filled by robots. Those jobs could be serving people food, hairstylist, front desk worker, or managing the captain of the ship. The robots cloth and teach and take care of the humans. The humans have become so dependent on technology and robots that they do not know how to take care of themselves. The robots take over the humans and outsmart the humans in the beginning and practically control the humans. On the ship, you only see the humans immersed in technology that they do not know how to even have a simple human interaction with each other and have really lost touch with themselves and their ability to think critically and again are very dependent on technology for every aspect of their lives. In this film, the future of technology and the digital age has really expanded and developed to another level.
